A good exhaustion

By Robert Woolf

The excitement of visiting again,
Seeing how far we’ve come in 25 years.

Strangers lending a hand, with nothing to gain,
Sharing chocolate, as way of thanks.

Plunging into icy waters, cold and clear,
Feeling awake, feeling alive.

Reminiscing with laughter and silence,
Exceeding already beautiful memories.

Reaching the top, aching bodies and empty minds,
A sense of connection, once again.

Being lazy, just for once,
Breathing it all in.

Gazing at shooting stars and satellites,
Feeling I could touch the universe from here.

The sound of silence, vast and endless,
Perfect moments with a lifelong friend.

A freshly brewed coffee as the sun says hello,
A fully-lit mountain, sparkling with promise.

A brown bear meandering, distant and calm,
Not a soul in sight.

Eating dried mango and oranges,
Feeling that life couldn’t be any better.

Exhaustion from the right things,
Illuminating my path ahead.

Realising, right now, that I’m doing good things,
Soaking in the sunshine and gentle breeze.

Switzerland – you are beautiful,
We will always be together!
